Overview

A migraine is mainly a headache disorder which is characterized by reoccurring headaches. Migraines typically affect one half of the headache, are throbbing or pulsating, and are accompanied by nausea or vomiting. Migraines can last anywhere from a few hours to several days. Migraines were first noted around 1500 BC in ancient Egypt. About 3500 years later, the World Health Organization recognized and listed it as one of the top causes of disabilities.

Symptoms of Migraines

A severe and gradual pain located mostly on one side of the brain, often followed by an aura. Occasionally triggered by constant physical movements. Long term abnormalities such as sensitivity to certain stimuli often accompany migraines as well.

Causes

With modern medical conditions, the cause of migraines are currently unclear. There are many factors that may contribute to the disorder. The most common is genetic. The pattern and probability of inheritance is unclear. Another factor is the body’s reactions to certain stimuli. It lacks resources that supports an individual’s health and therefore the body triggers the nervous system to create the sense of pain inside the brain.
